Costume Criterium

The Women’s Mountain Bike Association is hosting a Costume Criterium full of stunts and silly obstacles. Kids on Bikes will be helping with the kiddie race, which will take place immediately after the adult race at 4:00. Costumes are mandatory and helmets must be worn by all racers. Spectators are welcome!

Bring your friends and family. This event is open to the public and a definite not-to-be-missed event!

$10 suggested donation will get you into the ride, a prize ticket, and a drink cup. There will be lots of great prizes and prize drawings.

Kids on Bikes Announces New Executive Director

It is with great excitement, that we announce our new Executive Director Nikki McComsey! Nikki will be taking over leadership of the organization from Lindsey Arkfeld. Lindsey started as the first full-time staff of KOB in 2009 and left the organization in September 2011 to move to Eugene, Oregon. We know Nikki is going to do an amazing job leading the future growth and expansion of KOB!

From corporate accounting to Kids on Bikes director, Nikki has had a varied background that has brought her to the organization. After obtaining her CPA and working in audit and accounting, Nikki found her calling to lead an organization in which she was passionate. She wanted to be able to provide kids and families with the opportunity for health and wellness through the joy of owning a bike. A road cyclist and lover of all things outdoors, Nikki began her career with Kids on Bikes in October 2011. She is able to apply her strategic and analytic skills learned in business to lead an organization that will provide kids the opportunity for health, freedom and confidence that a bike provides. Nikki recalls her childhood with great fondness when she looks back at the adventures she had on her bike with all of the other kids in the neighborhood. She believes that it is an experience that all children should have the opportunity to experience. Nikki received her bachelor’s degree in accounting and business from Colorado Christian University and her master’s degree in counseling and human services from the University of Colorado. Nikki is a Colorado native and has lived in Colorado Springs with her husband and mini schnauzer for over 6 years.

24 Minutes of Colorado Springs

Ascent Cycling and Specialized are hosting this year’s 24 Minutes of Colorado Springs along with IMBA “Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day”. Kids can come take part in the 24 hour national championship and ride a modified course at Palmer Park. Specialized is helping out with the event by giving away t-shirts and water bottles.

The event is FREE, but requires registration as the event is only open to 75 riders. You can get registered Friday from noon – 8pm, by calling Ascent Cycling at 719-597-8181 or risk it and drop by before the race at 9am on Saturday. Good luck to all the riders going BIG!

Pikes Peak SuperCross

While others are inside eating turkey this Thanksgiving Holiday…dust off that knobby-tire bike in your garage and come out for the most fun you will ever have on two wheels!!!

Cyclocross is the original off-season extreme sport and one of the fastest growing segments in cycling; combining riding and running.

Join Pikes Peak Velo Racing and a host of sponsors on SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 19th for a race you will not forget while helping raise money for Kids on Bikes. Race categories range from first-time beginners to professionals. There is even a free kids race on a specially-designed mini-course!

Location: Historic Rock Ledge Ranch at Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs
Times: start times vary throughout the day depending on racing age and category. Visit pikespeakvelo.com for details.

Cost: $25 day of event registration (non-ACA Members pay an extra $5 for one-day membership), Juniors and Kids race free.
Course: 2.0 miles long with a mix of single track, dirt path, pavement, mud, snow, and of course…obstacles!!!

Urban Peak 2nd Annual Fill the Shed Event

Join us to “Fill the Shed” and support The Urban Peak Bike Program. The program is in partnership with Kids on Bikes to provide homeless youth with bicycles, helmets and locks. Ownership of a bicycle creates independence, responsibility, fun and relationships. Urban Peak helps homeless youth and youth at-risk of becoming homeless overcome real life
challenges by providing essential services and a safe community, empowering them to become self-sufficient adults.

100% of proceeds will benefit the youth and programs of Urban Peak. Make checks payable to: Urban Peak Colorado Springs.

Garden of the Gods Gourmet Community Dinner

The Garden of the Gods Gourmet chefs have planned a delicious “First Bite of Fall” buffet for $ 20 per person. Half of the proceeds from the evening will be donated to Kids on Bikes and Community Partnership for Child Development. It will be held at opening night of The Carter Payne, an historic event center, located at 320 S. Weber. The dinner is open to 200 wonderful community members. We hope you can join us for this amazing community event and support two organizations making an incredible difference in the lives of local children in need.

Chick-Fil-A Ride for Heroes Kids Fun Ride

Join in the fun of the Chick-Fil-A Ride for Heroes for a FREE one mile kids fun ride. Come decorate your bike and ride around the beautiful Glen Eyrie grounds. We’ll even cruise on by the castle!

Cost for the ride is free, but all parents must register their children and sign a release waiver. Registration is available the morning of the event. Parents are welcome to ride with their kids as well!

And be sure to check out the Patriot’s Festival from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM to honor our service men and women. There will be a helicopter landing, safety demonstrations, free kids zone, face painting, and more!

All events are located at the Glen Eyrie Conference Center at 3820 North 30th Street.
